Question 1: The hardwired chime has a place to install a second push button. Can I use only one push button?
Answer: Yes, be sure to attach it to the terminal or wire for the front door push button.
Question 2: Can I install additional hardwired chime(s) in my home?
Answer: Yes, make sure the transformer that supplies power to your chime system will power the component(s) you wish to install. One chime requires a 16VAC, 10 watt transformer. Each additional chime will require that the transformer wattage be increased by 5 watts. For example, two chimes require a 16VAC, 15 watt transformer; three chimes require a 16VAC, 20 watt transformer. The chimes you install must be the same type. Electronic (with a speaker) and Mechanical (metal bars and plunger) chimes will not work together.
Question 3: What is the purpose of the diode in my electronic hardwired chime?
Answer: The diode provides power to the system. Without the diode, the visitor would have to hold the pushbutton in continuously to ring the chime. Two diodes are supplied with most chimes. Install one diode on the front door push button only. The second diode is a spare and should not be used on the rear door push button.
Question 4: Why does my electronic hardwired chime only ring a short time and not a complete chime?
Answer: Make sure the diode has been installed correctly on the front door push button. Diodes only allow power to be released through them in one direction. Try removing the diode and rotating it 180 degrees to correct the issue.
Question 5: What size diode is required for my electronic hardwired chime?
Answer: Your electronic hardwired chime uses a type 1N4003 diode. The diode is available at most Radio Shack locations as their part number 276-1102.
Question 6: How do I wire my Heath/Zenith transformer to the 120VAC supply wires?
Answer: Your transformer should have one GREEN wire and two BLACK wires. Connect the TRANSFORMER GREEN wire to your house ground. Connect one TRANSFORMER BLACK wire to your HOUSE BLACK and connect the remaining TRANSFORMER BLACK wire to your HOUSE WHITE. Polarity does not matter in the transformer installation.
